(SAN MARCOS, Texas) – Gary Job Corps Center has been making the future brighter for Texas young people for more than 40 years. In all those years, there has never been a better time than right now to add more people to the center’s long list of student success stories.
“We have a fully-accredited high school at our center along with career and technical education programs in dozens of fields,” said Gary Center Director Dean Hoffman. “We have comprehensive year-round programs to teach our students to be machinists, carpenters, welders, plumbers, chefs, computer technicians – you name it. After students complete a training program, they can enroll in our college program. Best of all, Job Corps is a federally-funded program. Students receive scholastic benefits valued at nearly $25,000 each year, at no personal cost. It’s like attending a community or technical college for FREE.”
Gary Job Corps Center enrollment is available to male and female students, ages 16 to 24 who meet government assistance income guidelines. Both high school graduates and non-graduates are encouraged to enroll. Students who aren’t yet certain what careers they wish to pursue will be provided one-on-one counseling opportunities to determine what might work best for them.
The center’s A. Edward Gary High School is accredited by the Texas Education Agency. It was formally dedicated last spring and began enrolling students in August 2006. Gary Job Corps Center is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The center enjoys an articulation agreement with Texas State Technical College. Gary students can obtain two (2) to 21 college semester hours for completing their career technical education program. Certified Gary Job Corps Center instructors also provide educational opportunities for students with limited English skills.
Perhaps most importantly, Gary Job Corps Center provides a nurturing environment in which students are allowed to work at their own pace with on-going professional assistance. Before graduating from the program, students will be assisted with career placement or enrollment into a college or university program.
Come and see for yourself. The center has tours every Wednesday and Thursday. For more about the Gary Job Corps Center please visit:
