Flock of Flamingos enroute to
Botanical Gardens & NatureCenter . . .
. . . arriving May 26!
CORPUS CHRISTI--Flamingo Fandango, a fun-tastic exhibit of innovatively-designed pink plastic yard flamingos is coming to the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center this summer! The adventure into flamingo fantasy world opens Saturday, May 26, continuing through Monday, September 3.
In partnership with Art for All (the organization that brought us Dances with Dolphins), both professional and amateur artists are invited to create a work of flamingo foolery using the pink plastic yard ornament…resulting in multiple flamingo personas with imagination the only boundary. Of course, flamingo-dressing materials must weather the outdoor elements from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Prizes will be given in a number of categories that will include both youth and adults--individuals, classes, groups or companies. In addition to the custom-designed flamingos, a rather large flock of “naked” birds--plus or minus 200--will be on site for visitor photo opportunities.
“Flamingo Bodies” are available now; and must be returned “dressed” for display, and named, by May 20. Each flamingo requires a deposit, which will be refunded when the completed bird is returned to the Botanical Gardens. All flamingos remain property of the Gardens & Nature Center. Area artists are encouraged to stretch their artistic wings to transform the Botanical Gardens & Nature Center with these faux feathered friends this summer.
