Grande Communications Awards Grant To
South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind
Corpus Christi, TX - Representatives from South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind will be accepting a generous donation of $2,500 during a check presentation from Grande Communications on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. at Grande Communications, located at 6441 Saratoga Blvd. The grant awarded will increase community awareness about blindness and help to build relationships with other community organizations through the “Lighthouse Visionaries” program. This program provides a fundraising tool for youth while encouraging, motivating, and rewarding student teamwork. The program is geared toward youth groups like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school Student Councils, and other organizations who would like to raise funds for South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind. Participants are able to earn prizes based on the level of money they raise.
The “Lighthouse Visionaries” program will assist people that have vision loss through employment opportunities, Orientation & Mobility (cane travel) training and Adaptive Technology (computer skills) training. This training helps individuals with varying degrees of vision loss to live more independently and prepare them to enter the workforce and pursue higher education. “South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind is excited to have Grande Communications award this grant and become a partner as we provide a fundraising tool to the youth of the Coastal Bend community,” said Sherry Bowers, Director of Development. “We are currently enrolling participants who want to become a member of the ‘Lighthouse Visionaries’ program.”
