PHYLLIS FINLEY:
INTIMATIONS
Corpus Christi, TX.—The City of Corpus Christi is pleased to announce a new program entitled Arts in Focus: City Hall with its inaugural exhibition Intimations, by the nationally recognized Texas photographer Phyllis Finley. The exhibition will be on view on the second floor of City Hall of Corpus Christi and will open on Friday, February 9, 2007 with a run until Friday, May 4, 2007. A reception for the exhibition will be held on February 9, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
In this current body of photographs, Mrs. Finley explores the unique shapes and exquisite designs cast by shadows. According to Mrs. Finley, “Shadows evoke darkness, a mystery, signifying the other side of reason. The shadow is that part of oneself that hasn’t been brought to consciousness. It’s unknown, a phantom, dangerous or frightening. But the discovery of what is can also be exhilarating and profound.”
Mrs. Finley, who accomplished her post-graduate work in photography at the University of Texas in Austin, has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions nationally including in Texas, New York, Washington, Seattle, and California, just to name a few. She has received many honors and awards including Honorable Mention from the Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Washington, and a Judge’s Award from the Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado.
Additionally, Mrs. Finley has also been mentioned in numerous publications including
The San Antonio Express-News, Artlies, Artweek, and Art in America.
